SATELLITE INTERNET, DIGITAL TV DEMO - ALCUDIA

There will be a demonstration of an innovative all-in-one system of satellite internet, digital TV and VOIP (phone via internet) for businesses and homes at the Siesta 1 Apartments lounge, Avenida Pedro Mas y Reus, Puerto Alcúdia. Potentially very interesting, especially as there is no need for Telefonica. From 10:00 till 20:00.

BEATA FIESTA 2009 - SANTA MARGALIDA (selected events)

The Beata fiesta in Santa Margalida is considered to feature some of the most traditional aspects of Mallorcan fiestas, most obviously the actual celebration of the Beata Santa Catalina Thomas.

Saturday, 29 August
19:30: Mass. Santa Margalida choir. Place: parish church.

22:30: Dance. Performances by Aires Vileras and Música Nostra. Place: Plaça de la Vila.


Sunday, 30 August
19:30: Mass and prayer for the fiestas. Followed by jazz concert with group Jazztabé (sax, keyboards, bass and drums). Place: parish church.


Tuesday, 1 September
20:30: Master classes of pilates, aerobics and spinning and also rhythmic gymnastics. Place: Plaça de la Vila.


Wednesday, 2 September

REAL MALLORCA v. XEREZ - LA LIGA, 30 August

The football season is back and so are the No Frills' trips to Mallorca's home games. The first one of the season is against Xerez.

MARE DE DÉU D'AGOST - 2009

Mare de Déu d'Agost. This is a celebration across the island. The major event in the north is in Can Picafort, where the climax of the fiesta fortnight occurs. As a reminder of events on 15 August in Can Picafort, the main attractions are:

12:00: Traditional liberating on the ducks (rubber). Place: in front of the hotel Mar y Paz.

24:00: Grand fireworks display: Place: Plaça Cervantes.

In Alcúdia, there is a more subdued celebration:

Each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday there is a market in the Paseo Marítimo (promenade) in Puerto Alcúdia. This features games, theatre, paintings and batucadas (drum sambas). The times are 19:00-23:00.
