BINISSALEM STONE AND CRAFT FAIR 2011

The Binissalem fair is largely a celebration of the craft of dry-stone walling, but it has been expanding in scope.

Friday, 27 May:
20:00: Concert in the town church of music by Mozart, Ravel, Mussorgsky and Schuman.

Saturday, 28 May:
17:00: The fair opens. Parades from 17:30 with giants and pipers.

18:00: Concert by the local music band at the town church.

23:30: Concert by the groups Contrapunt and The Thunders.

Sunday, 29 May:
10:00: The fair opens.

11:30: Dance of the giants Jaume and Aina.

12:30: Street parades by the horses of San Jordi.

14:00: Meal of noodles with rabbit on the terrace of the graduate school. (Tickets have to have been bought in advance from the town hall before Saturday afternoon.)

17:00: Batucada street drum and samba parade with more dancing by the giants.

18:30: Public folk dance to the music of Es Revetllers.

IRONMAN 70.3 TRIATHLON - ALCUDIA

Saturday, 14 May:

The Thomas Cook-sponsored Ironman triathlon takes place throughout the Saturday.

The three stages will be as follows:

The 1.9 kilometre swimming circuit will be between the Alcudiamar marina and the Sunwing Resort in Puerto Alcúdia.

Cycling (90.1 kilometres) will go from the Magic roundabout in Puerto Alcúdia into Alcúdia town and then out on the coast road to Puerto Pollensa, going off to Pollensa, up into the mountains to Lluc and then back via Sa Pobla and finishing by coming along the Avenida Tucan (the Hidropark road) to Magic.

The running (21.1 kilometres) will be a circuit from Alcudiamar to Magic, along the Carretera Arta, past where the canal enters the bay and to just short of the Platja d'Or hotel and then back along the beach.

There are different age groups taking part and male and female races. It all gets underway from 08:00. The final cut-off finish line will be at 17:30, but the professionals and the winner are expected to finish by around 12.00.

Please note that roads in Puerto Alcúdia, Alcúdia town as well as towards and into Puerto Pollensa and onwards will be closed for periods of the day. The Carretera Arta from the Magic roundabout into the port will be closed completely from Monday, 9 May to allow for preparation.
