POLLENSA FESTIVAL 2013

Music programme:
All concerts are at the Cloister of Sant Domingo in Pollensa, except the street music on 15 August and the concert in Alcúdia on 27 August. Start time is 22:00 for all events in Pollensa.

Saturday, 3 August: Gabriel Estarellas (guitar) and Balearics Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Josep Vicent (Vivaldi, Rodrigo, Shostakovich). CANCELLED OWING TO STRIKE BY THE ORCHESTRA.
Saturday, 10 August: Balearics Symphony Orchesta, conducted by Fernando Veláquez (music for cinema). CANCELLED AND REPLACED BY ARA MALIKIAN AND LA ORQUESTA EN EL TEJADO.
Tuesday, 13 August: Chamber orchestra of The World Orchestra with narrators Rosa Novell, Andrés Lima, Biel Mesquida. "The Soldier's Tale" (Stravinsky/Ramuz).
Wednesday, 14 August: The World Orchestra, conducted by Josep Vicent, with flamenco singer Ginesa Ortega (Ortiz, Falla, Beethoven).
Thursday, 15 August: Music in the streets of Pollensa.
Sunday, 18 August: Claudi Arimany (flute), Josep Francesc Palou (flute), Michel Wagemans (piano). (Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Doppler, Mozart, Martinu, Verdi).
Saturday, 24 August: Federico Guglielmo (violin), Concerto de Cavalieri, conducted by Marcello Di Lisa. (Corelli, Vivaldi).
Tuesday, 27 August:
21:30: The World Orchestra, conducted by Josep Vicent (unpublished works by Michael Nyman). Alcúdia Auditorium.


Plastic arts programme:
20 July-15 September: Amparo Sand, "Shady Scenes".

Cinema programme:
Films with soundtracks by Fernando Velázquez. On the terrace at Pollensa town hall.

Wednesday, 7 August:
22:00: "Lo imposible", Juan Antonio Bayona.
Thursday. 8 August:
22:00: "Los ojos de Julia", Guillem Morales.

Literature programme:
Literature and war, a programme co-ordinated by Malcolm Otero Barral, publisher and writer, and Maria Antònia Fornés Pallicer, professor from the Department of Spanish Philology, Classic and Modern at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. Plus many other participants.
5 August-9 August: Morning (10:00-12:00) and afternoon (16:00-18:00) sessions at the Club Pollença.

POLLENSA FESTIVAL 2012

The festival, in its 51st incarnation this year, has broadened its scope to be more of an arts festival. Concert times have yet to be confirmed, but they have normally been at 22.00.

Music programme:
Friday, 6 July: Balearics Symphony Orchestra. Director Josep Vicent. Romeo and Juliet (Prokofiev); Foster's Symphony (Joan Valent, director of the festival). Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 50-40-30 euros.

Saturday, 14 July: Francesco Tristano (piano - works by Tristano, Frescobaldi, Bach and Cage). Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 30-25-20 euros.

Saturday, 21 July: Sevilla Baroque Orchestra. Director Pablo Valetti. (Locatelli, Handel, Avison, Bach). Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 45-35-25 euros.

Saturday, 4 August: Michael Nyman (piano), Marie Angel (soprano). "Body Parts" by Michael Nyman. Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 50-40-30 euros.

Saturday, 11 August: The Complex Baroque. Director Ricardo Minasi, narrator Donna Leon, "Venetian Curiosities". Stories by Donna Leon and music by Vivaldi. Prices: 45-35-25 euros.

Saturday, 18 August:
The World Orchestra. Director Josep Vicent. (Beethoven and Tchaikovsky). Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 50-40-30 euros.

Tuesday, 21 August: Soloists of The World Orchestra. Quartets by Beethoven. Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 20-15-10 euros.

Thursday, 23 August:
The World Orchestra Brass Ensemble. Music of the 20th century. Hotel Formentor. Free but limited. Invitation can be obtained seven days before from the Colonya bank in Pollensa.

Friday, 24 August: Concerts on the streets of Pollensa featuring soloists from The World Orchestra and students from the Pollensa music school. Free.

Saturday, 25 August: The World Orchestra. Director Josep Vicent. (Beethoven and Dvorak). Sant Domingo cloister. Prices: 50-40-30 euros.

Tickets can be purchased over the internet or by phone from tickmaster.es (902 15 00 25) or from the festival office (Sant Domingo) and on the day at the Sant Domingo cloister.

Discounts apply for multiple bookings; 50% discount for under-14s; 10% discount for Pollensa residents.

Friday, 20 July: "Carta a Eva" (Agustí Villaronga)
These take place on the town hall terrace.

Friday, 3 August: Michael Nyman, Joan Valent and Ludovic Bource converse with their pianos about music in the cinema. Hotel Formentor.

Wednesday, 15 August: "The Artist". Projection of the film, presented by Ludovic Bource, composer of the original soundtrack and 2011 Oscar winner. Town hall terrace.

Entrance to the music in cinema is free but invitations have to be obtained seven days before from the Colonya bank in Pollensa.

Literature:
Course on the crime novel. From Agatha Christie to the current day.
Monday, 6 August to Friday, 10 August: The participation of many crime novellists and writers. Events hall, Colonya Caixa bank, Pollensa.

Monday, 6 August: Lecture by Rosa Novell and Eduardo Mendoza. Son Brull Hotel.  Entrance is free but invitations have to be obtained seven days before from the Colonya bank in Pollensa.

FIL D'ARIADNA - Interdisciplinary arts and mythology festival, Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa, Cala San Vicente

Thursday, 11 August:
19:30: Opening of all exhibition rooms. Performance by the singer Mar Cortès with bass player Josep Sina. The terrace of Can Llobera, Pollensa.

21:45: Performance of "Prometheus", directed by Saeta Hernando on the beach in Puerto Pollensa with accompaniment of the drums of the demons group Ka de Bou.

24:00: Welcome oration to the festival by Malena Estrany, councillor for culture. Drums in the Plaça Major, Pollensa and then Prometheus at Can Llobera (the performance appears to move from the port to Pollensa town).


Friday, 12 August:
19:30: Mallorcan folk music with Tomeu Cerdà and U Músics Joglars at La Tafona de Ca'n Reiet, Pollensa.

21:30: The FIL chamber orchestra. Cloister of Sant Domingo, Pollensa.


Saturday, 13 August:
19:30: Performance by Magdalena Seguí and theatrical monologues. Martí Vicenç foundation.

21:30: Parade of mythological fashion. At the Micer Studio, Pollensa.

22:30: The singer Damià Oliver performs at the Club Pollensa.


Sunday, 14 August:
11:30: Greek parades at the weekly Pollensa market.

19:30: Saxophonist Santiago Bo at 8Ulls in Puerto Pollensa.

21:00: Intervention by Kirsty Duffield (whatever this means). Puerto Pollensa beach.

22:00: The music duo Superlipopet and video projection at the Miguel Capllonch cultural centre, Puerto Pollensa.


Monday, 15 August:
20:30: Video projection by Jaume Orejuela at Can Moixet, Pollensa. Athenian agora in squares in Pollensa and on the steps of the Calvari.

22:00: Poetry reading with accompaniment by guitarist Juanjo Cerdà and the duo Superlipopet. La Caixa, Pollensa.


Tuesday, 16 August:
19:30: Children's colourful maze in the Plaça de Ca les Munnares, Pollensa.

20:30: Performance of the Pandora's Box by Ishmaelle López at 8Ulls, Puerto Pollensa.

21:30: Performance on the terrace of Can Llobera and video projection in the Plaça Vella, Pollensa.

22:00: Concert by Jazz'ta Quartet. Miguel Capllonch cultural centre, Puerto Pollensa.


Wednesday, 17 August:
19:30: Performance of "Penélopes", Vincent Fouillat. Old pier in Puerto Pollensa.

22:00: Video projection onto the Miguel Capllonch cultural centre, Puerto Pollensa.


Thursday, 18 August:
19:30: Children's dance and concert by the FIL chamber orchestra. Cloister of Sant Domingo, Pollensa.

21:30: Performance and then video projection at the Pension Bellavista, Puerto Pollensa.

22:00: Concert by Jazz'ta Quartet. Miguel Capllonch cultural centre, Puerto Pollensa.


Friday, 19 August:
19:30: Street dance with Bettina Inés Truffat.

20:30: Performance in the Joan March gardens in front of the Cloister of Sant Domingo, Pollensa.

22:00: "Ariadne and the Labyrinth of the Minotaur". Performance and also video projections and DJs at the Miguel Capllonch cultural centre, Puerto Pollensa.


Saturday, 20 August:
20:30: "The Return Of Prometheus". Performance at the Cala Barques in Cala San Vicente. With drum accompaniment from Ka de Bou and dance with public participation and then acoustic concert.


Sunday, 21 August:
19:30: Athenian agora along the Paseo Anglada Camarasa and pine walk in Puerto Pollensa.

22:00: Concert of Mestizo Art System and end of festival party at the Cloister of Sant Domingo, Pollensa, with percussionist Marce Ventura, batucada Sandungueros Samba Club, Drago i els Dargonets and Jazz4Trip.
