SANT JAUME FIESTA - ALCUDIA 2009

This is the programme for the Sant Jaume fiesta 2009.
Most events take place around the market square in the old town of Alcúdia.


Saturday, 18 July
16:00: Basketball tournament. Place: Passeig de Pere Ventayol. Registration: Sportsworld d'Alcúdia (by the end of 16 July).

16:00: Chess tournament. Place: Fundació Torrnens. Entry is five euros and free for local players. To book entries, call 971 545 289 between 21:00 and 23:00 by 17 July.

20:30: Opening of an exhibition of photography by Jaume Poma. Place: Can Fondo, C/. Serra (lasts till 26 September).

22:00: Open-air cinema. "Els Nins (the children) de Huang Shi. In Catalan. Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria.


Sunday, 19 July
09:30: Mallorca Beach Tennis Tour 2009. Information, call: 651 535 475.

16:00: Basketball tournament. Place: Passeig de Pere Ventayol.

20:30: Welcome to the fiestas. Concert with Jove Orquestra d'Alcúdia. Place: Terrace of Can Torró, C/. Serra.

22:30: Gospel music concert with the Alcúdia town choir. Place: Bridge of the Porta Roja (red gate).


Monday, 20 July
Sale of tickets for open-air supper and bingo. Price: 2.50 euros, from the Auditorium. (Takes place on Thursday, 23 July.)

20:30: Grand evening treasure-hunt (gimcana). 14 year old and above. Teams of five with a maximum of 12 teams. Information, Auditorium 971 897 185. Place of event: Passeig de Pere Ventayol.

21:00: Supper for pensioners. Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria.

21:30: Alcúdia Urban Show. Concert and show of hip-hop dance. Place: Passeig de Pere Ventayol.

22:30: Party and ballroom-dance with the group Honey. Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria.


Tuesday, 21 July
19:30: Exhibition of modern ballroom dance. Place: Plaça de Carles V.

19:30: Presentation of the book by the architect Glòria Druguet devoted to the 80th anniversary of the Alcúdia town hall building. Place: Terraces of Can Torrí and Can Fondo, C/. Serra.

20:00: Visit of the judges of the decorated streets of the town.

20:15: Show of a documentary about Guillem Cifre de Colonya. Place: Can Torró Library.

22:00: Open-air theatre: "Massa dones per a un sol home". Place: Bullring.


Wednesday, 22 July
18:00: Children's games and then (at 19:30) children's party. Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria.

22:00: International folk dance with the Alcúdia school of ball de bot Sarau Alcudienc and Alat from Bosnia. Place: Plaça de Carles V.


Thursday, 23 July
10:00: Open-door day at the Roman town of Pollentia.

18:00: Football tournament finals (juniors). Place: Pavilion at the sports area.

18:00: Sant Jaume market. Place: Plaça de Carles V.

21:15: Open-air supper and bingo. Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria. (Tickets cost 2.50 euros - see information under Monday, 20 July.)

23:00: Night of comedy with Diabéticas Aceleradas and their "Cabaret Show". Place: Passeig de la Mare de Déu de la Victòria.


Friday, 24 July

23:00: Romana-Alcúdia Night Fever. Party with Val 9, DJ Miguel Vera and DJ Juan Campos. Place: Plaça de Carles V.


Saturday, 25 July (Sant Jaume)
11:30: Procession with the Alcúdia Municipal Band.

12:00: Eucharist. Place. Sant Jaume Church.

13:00: Act of commemoration of 30 years of local democracy and 80 years of the town hall building. Place: the town hall.

13:15: Traditional refreshments at the town hall and prizes for the best-decorated streets.

16:00: Finals of the beach volleyball tournament. Place: Place: Sports beach, Ciudad Blanca, Puerto Alcúdia.

18:00: Sant Jaume market. Place: Plaça de Carles V.

18:30: Bullfight with matadors José Carlos Venegas, José Carlos Cabello, Juan Duque. Place: Bullring. Tickets from the bullring bar, from bar Fonda Llabrés and also on the day.

20:30: Procession from the bullring to the Plaça de la Constitució.

22:30: Concert by the Alcúdia Municipal Band. Place: Plaça de la Constitució.
