PATRONA FIESTA POLLENSA 2007

Patrona is the annual fiesta week that takes place in Pollensa. All events take place in and around the old town of Pollensa except for a regatta in Puerto Pollensa. The highlight, or one of them, is the traditional battle between the Moors and the Christians which commemorates the town’s liberation from the Moors. Most events are listed here but some minor ones are not. Some are not listed fully as I just don’t get the Mallorquin.

26 July:

14:00 - Kicks off with pipes, rockets and bells. Place: Monti-sion

20:30 - Procession with the trumpet and drum band. Place: Streets of Pollensa

21:00 - Opening of photographic exhibition with images of the Patrona. Place: Club Pollença

22:00 - Presentation by Bartomeu Vilanova Suau, the title of which is “Colors”, which - believe it or not - means colours. Concert by the Pollensa Band and procession. Place: Convent Cloister Sant Domingo

23:45 - Concert with the groups Dinamo and Canteca de Macao. Place: Plaça Major

27 July:

18:00 - Children’s party. Place: Plaça de Ca les Munnares

19:00 - Opening of exhibition “Expressío i Sentiment”, benefit for Rwanda. Place: Convent de Sant Jordi

20:00 - Opening of the 5th meeting of new Pollensa artists. Place: Club Pollença

21:00 - Opening of exhibition by José Nieto, titled “Desconocidos” (Unknowns) and “With Our Hands” by the occupational workshop of the PRODIS association (PRODIS is a charity that works with special needs people). Place: Espai Tartan

22:00 - Documentary “The Guardians of Mallorca”. Place: Convent Cloister

22:30 - Opening of photographic exhibition “Africa 2007”. Place: Plaça Seglars (to 30 July)

23:00 - Performance by groups Cocktail and Espais Verds. Place: Plaça Major

23:15 - DJ Toni Llobera in session. Place: Ca la Gran Cristiana

28 July:

14:00 - 2nd meeting of Latin sailing (whatever that means). Regattas. Place: Club Naútico, Puerto Pollensa

17:00 - Skateboarding and Jumps. Place: Sports Centre

18:30 - Gathering of Giants from Mallorca and then procession. Place: Calle Sor Flor Ricomana and then streets of Pollensa.

19:30 - Supper, music and market. Place: Jardins Joan March

21:30 - Opening of the pictorial exhibition “Pollensa Bay. Blue and Boats”. Place: Sala Ignasi Rotger

22:00 - Theatre “I’ll Be Your Son-In-Law” (I think). Place: Convent Cloister

24:00 - Piromusical (no, I don’t know either) with K de Bou. Place: Via Pollentia

01:00 - Concerts by Anegtas and El Frenillo de Gauguin. Place: Plaça Major

29 July:

12:00 - Tennis finals. Place: Sports Centre

14:00 - More Latin sailing. Place: Club Naútico, Puerto Pollensa

17:00 - Remote-control car competition. Place: Industrial estate

19:00 - Another procession with Giants. Place: Streets from Roser Vell to Plaça Major

22:00 - Pollensa Celebration with dance school and the group Corda Amarada. Place: Plaça Major

23:00 - Concert with groups The Blues Hawks, Side Project, Kubensis, Inner Sight, God of Hate, Lusers (could be Losers). Place: Plaça de Ca les Munnares

23:15 - Café Concert with Marta Ferrer and Marga Pocoví. Place: Convent Cloister

30 July:

10:00 - Board games (runs till dusk at 21:00). Place: Jardins Joan March

21:00 - Return to the 50s with the group Honey. Party for older folk. Place: Convent Cloister

22:00 - Traditional music night. Herbes Dolces and Es Revetlers. Place: Plaça Major

22:30 - Concert with Fito i Fitipaldis. Place: Ca N’Escarrinxo

31 July:

17:00 - What do you know, another procession with a trumpet and drum band

18:00 - Procession (yep, another one of those) with the ancient image of the Patrona

19:00 - THE BIG ONE. Simulation of the fight between the Moors and the Christians. Place: Calle Major

21:30 - More with the Pollensa Band. Place: Plaça Major and Parròquia (parish church)

24:00 - Grand firework display. Place: Via Pollentia
