NEW YEAR / LIVE MUSIC / THREE KINGS - Alcúdia and Pollensa

NEW YEAR celebrations crack off in most towns just before midnight. Alcúdia and Pollensa are no exceptions. From 23:45 in both towns, people gather for the fun that lasts well into the wee small hours. In Alcúdia, the main centre is the Plaça Constitució; in Pollensa it is the Plaça Major.

Apart from this ...

30 December: Children’s party, Alcúdia. Plaça Carles V. 11:00
30 December: Live music. Kevin Ayers (blimey, Kevin Ayers; it really is him, one of the great names of British psychedelia), Alcúdia Auditorium. 22:00. 15 euros in advance; 17 euros on the night.

After new year ...
4 January: Live music. Petit / José Domingo. Folk pop and psycho crooner (whatever the heck a psycho crooner is). Sa Birreria, Pollensa. 22:30

THREE KINGS
Both Alcúdia and Pollensa celebrate the arrival of the Kings.
5 January: Puerto Alcúdia. 18:15 the kings arrive at the Moll Vell, and then there is a procession to the old town, having first stopped off at the church in the port for a bit of adoration.
5 January: Pollensa. The kings pitch up at 19:00. Different kings to the Alcúdia ones presumably.

Of the two, Alcúdia is the better celebration. Wrap up warm if you’re going to see them arrive at the pier (Moll Vell). It was bitter last year.
